Today, April the 4th, is a very important date for the Spanish largest fashion company in the world. Zara opens a colossal store of 5,000 square meters (2,415 commercial area) at number 23 of Serrano Street in Madrid. Following the footsteps of the great stores inaugurated in New York or London, which Inditex calls its ‘flagship’, ie, its flagship superstores. The building has six floors, five of which are for women, man and child’s clothing, and the last one works as a showroom and host presentations of new collections, as well as other kind of fashion events.
The interior of the store has a cube crystal structure, for which have been used glass panels of 5 metres height. The structure and materials conjure up a magical light that floods the new store and gives to the buying experience a unique feeling. The new Zara store in Serrano Street is located in a building from the early twentieth century with a facade cataloged and protected within the historic complex of Villa de Madrid. The renovation of the building, from the 20s, has lasted 14 months. It began in February 2013 and is a project of Galician architect Elsa Urquijo, responsible for other major projects for the firm, such as the New York store.
