Did you know that the word sangría comes from the English vocable sangaree which, at the same time, derives from the Spanish term sangre (blood)? Despite the origins of its same, the refreshing sweetish taste of sangria has little to do with blood, just its color. Wine, fruits or spices are some of its basic ingredients, making it into the most typical drink of Spanish summertime. In order to avoid confusion, sangria is not a cocktail, as it is not prepared in a cockle shaker and it must be served in fine glasses. Besides, its elaboration needs plenty of time:

1. Have a glass pitcher. As we said, sangría must not be prepared in a cockle shaker, but in a transparent glass pitcher, in order to see the fruit that dress the sangria. If possible, make sure that the pitcher has a narrow neck, to avoid the fruit and the ice cubes falling into the glasses.

2. Various fruits. Dice some seasonal fleshy fruits, such as preach, apple, apricot, pear, pineapple and grapes. If you want, you can add segments of orange or lemon.

3. Wine and juice. Pour 1 liter of red wine into the pitcher; the best option would be a young one. Add a freshly squeezed lemon juice, or orange if you prefer, and mix it all.

4. Various spices. Then, sprinkle some cinnamon and nutmeg. If you like it very sweet, add sugar to taste.

5. Brandy and wait. An optional ingredient is brandy or other liquors, as orange liquor. Despite the amount of alcohol this drinks have, the fruits and the juice give the impression that it does not have so many degrees. Once in the pitched, mix it all with a wooden spoon and leave to macerate for at least two hours, so that the fruit fills sangria with its entire flavor.

6. Soda and serve. Before pouring the sangria into the glasses, add a bit of soda (or lemon/orange Fanta if you prefer). Put a great amount of ice cubs into the pitcher and you got it! Now you can enjoy the perfect drink to quench your thirst in the summertime.
