Lewis Hamilton on Australia pole, while Alonso takes fifth

 

Sebastian Vettel, down in 13th, failed to make it into the top 10 shoot-out

The British driver Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) grabbed a last-ditch pole position in the wet qualifying session at the Australian Grand Prix, ahead of the local Daniel Ricciardo (Red Bull). The Spaniard Fernando Alonso (Ferrari) took fifth while Sebastian Vettel (Red Bull), down in 13th, failed to make it into the top 10 shoot-out.

 

Regarding to the results, Alonso said he felt pleased but taking a cautious line assured that “after wintry tests, I think that we all would signed just for finishing the session”. He added: “fifth position is the one we deserved”.
