'Ocho apellidos vascos', the highest grossing Spanish-spoken film

of Spanish cinema

 

After 24 days in theaters, the comedy has accumulated to date almost EUR 25 million

Ocho apellidos vascos (Eight Basque surnames) is about to become the highest grossing Spanish-spoken film in the history of Spanish cinema, beating The Orphanage, directed by Juan Antonio Bayona.

 

After 24 days in theaters the comedy, starring Clara Lago, Dani Rovira, Carmen Machi and Karra Elejalde, has accumulated to date almost 25 million Euros in the box office and more than 4.4 million of spectators, according to figures provided by Universal.Thus, the film would overtake The Orphanage (25.06 million Euros) as the highest grossing movie filmed in Castilian in Spain. The comedy has already advanced La gran aventura de Mortadelo y Filemón ( 22.3 million Euros) and Torrente 2: Misión en Marbella (22.1 million Euros).

 

This weekend Ocho apellidos vascos dominated the Spanish number one in the box office with more than EUR 5.1 million with more than 743,000 spectators. The film is in eleventh position in the ranking of the top-15 global box office.

 

Eight Basque surnames recounts the adventures of Rafa ( Dani Rovira ), a typical Andalusian boy who has never had to leave his beloved Sevilla to get what matters most in life: wine, hair gel and women. But one fine day everything changes when the first woman to resist her charms appear : Amaia ( Clara Lago) , a Basque . Rafa is determined to conquer and travels to a village deep Euskadi , behaving as a Basque.
